My Mama has told me on more than one occasion that I am a girl who never wanted the party to end.

And now, entering in my 3rd decade of life, I have to say I can totally see that.

I am an extrovert. I love people. I love hanging out and partying like a Jesus rock star.

But now that I am older, I DO have those moments when I am ready to wrap the party up, head home, get in comfy pants and hit my bed. (Something about loving a soldier, raising a toddler, and doing ministry seem to require more sleep than previous life seasons…)

That’s how I kind of feel today. Because, my dear friend, this blog post is what I am considering to be the “Farewell Tour” of the #EverydayJesus link-up.  [Read more…]

I know, I know… I’ve said it so many times before.

I despise math. I haven’t seen a doctor, but I am pretty sure that anything with numbers makes me break out in hives.

Words are totally my jam. But obviously, (unfortunately?) dealing with all thing mathematical is very much a part of my life as well.

Even in my walk with Jesus. [Read more…]

Donation Angels

A couple of weeks ago, I bid adieu to my 20’s and welcomed in my 30’s.

As the extrovert I am, I was pondering what I should do to usher in this new decade of life. Should I party like a Jesus rockstar? Get another tattoo? (Oh wait. Already did that after my marathon…)

But, as the Lord often does, He surprised me and told me He wanted me to do something a little bit different… Hence, the #30Years30Acts of kindness project was born.

On my actual birthday-day, He had a doozy for me.

Check out the video to discover why I was wearing my wedding dress and drinking mineral water in a wine glass on a random weekday afternoon. [Read more…]

I have been spending some super-duper quality time working through the book of James.

And for those of you who might be new to this Jesus journey, James is what one would call a “practical” book.

Which means major life application.

Application = Challenging.

Every time I get out out my Bible, notebook and pen that has like eight different color settings on it (Thanks, Lindsey) to dig into this word, I start to squirm. I have to fight the urge define my faith in light of my success (ahem, or failure) of God’s word in my life.

Slow to speak? Nope. Slow to anger? Negative. Showing favoritism? Yep, did that. UG! [Read more…]

As you might know, I recently ran my first ever marathon.

And it is my tradition to share some of my mile-by-mile thoughts, because I think of Jesus most miles and I think of some pretty crazy stuff… But it is too good to just waste on a Facebook status.

Plus, we all need a good laugh, right?

So, per request, here is a breakdown and the nitty-gritty (rainy? painful?) details from my first-ever full marathon experience during the Columbia Gorge Marathon on 10.25.15… Enjoy! [Read more…]

Last week, I experienced a miracle.

I ran an official full marathon. And didn’t die.

I am not trying to be all “look-at-me-I-am-awesome,” but for a former (very) fluffy asthmatic gal, who, eight years ago couldn’t even run a quarter-mile to save her life, running 26.2 miles (with hills!) and living to tell about it is kind of a big deal.

And ALL the glory goes to God. Every. Single. Ounce. [Read more…]

Quick! Think fast!

On a scale from one to ten (with one being the lowest, ten being the highest) how do you think God would rank you, right now? (Don’t worry, it’s not a trick question.)

Got the number? Ok, great.

Now: It was a trick question. (Sorry about that little lie… Hold on while I repent real quick.)

Why was it a trick question? Because friend, if you ranked yourself ANYTHING but a TEN, you are wrong. [Read more…]

A while back, I was going for a run on a very familiar trail. My feet tapped in rhythmic cadence around the Fort Lewis airfield. I was in the zone, when something up ahead caught my eye.

It was one of those bright hunter-orange road construction signs.

Now, one thing I have learned about running on a military post is that they are always doing some kind of construction somewhere. As a runner, I have to be extra alert to the changes on my path so I don’t get squashed by a bulldozer or cement truck.

Normally, a road construction sign wouldn’t have made me laugh out loud. But this one did. [Read more…]

Four years ago on my birthday, my good friend and mentor Kelli gave me a book.

Based on the title of this post, you probably guessed which book it was: One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp.

I have ALWAYS been a list maker, and at my lowest of low point in life a couple of years before receiving this book, I had started a “Things that make me happy list.”

It had a few dozen items on it, but that was that.

Then I met Jesus. And got my mitts on this book.

And my “Official” One Thousand Gift list was born. [Read more…]

Sometimes, I see it coming. I am on my guard, ready. I can smell it in the air and I am face it with open arms.

Other times, it scares the ever-living everything out of me, like when my two-year-old wakes up at 0554, gets right up in my face and instructs me to “WAKE UP!”

It’s change. Something that all of us face at some point in our lives.

And Kristen Strong knows it. So she wrote a book to help us through it.  [Read more…]
