I have been spending some super-duper quality time working through the book of James.

And for those of you who might be new to this Jesus journey, James is what one would call a “practical” book.

Which means major life application.

Application = Challenging.

Every time I get out out my Bible, notebook and pen that has like eight different color settings on it (Thanks, Lindsey) to dig into this word, I start to squirm. I have to fight the urge define my faith in light of my success (ahem, or failure) of God’s word in my life.

Slow to speak? Nope. Slow to anger? Negative. Showing favoritism? Yep, did that. UG! [Read more…]

Factor of 7: A Hopeful Home

Hi friends! I am taking a quick breather from creating new material on Wednesdays as I prep for an upcoming conference and lay some foundational leadership work with a one of my local organizations. I was digging through the archives and found this post worthy of a re-share. I pray you enjoy it! Thanks for the grace.

Confession: I always feel… um… awkward… when I pass a homeless person on the street.

I never know what to do. Do I ignore them? Then I feel like a huge jerk. Do I make eye contact and say hello? I still feel like a jerk. Oh wait. Maybe its not awkward. And maybe it’s not just feeling like a jerk.  Maybe it’s conviction. Like, from the Holy Spirit. As in I should do something about it.

But I haven’t really known what to do. Until recently.  [Read more…]

When More Is Not Enough (Book Review & Giveaway)

My daughter is a smidge over a year and a half old. She is saying several dozen words, but her current favorite word comes as no surprise:

“MORE!”

Everything is more. More milk. More fun. More whatever-is-in-mama’s-salad-bowl. More, more, more, more, MORE.

It is (kind of) cute right now. However, as she grows, we are gonna put the whoa on this more business.

When More is not enoughWhich is a great theory. But can be difficult in our society of more, bigger, better, faster, me, me, me.

Fortunately, there is an AH-MAZ-ING new tool that all of us Jesus-loving parents can add to our arsenal.

Amy’s new book, “When More Is Not Enough: How to stop giving your kids what they want and start giving them what they need.”

Check out the book trailer below (or if you are reading via email, click here.) Then keep reading for more details (AND A GIVEAWAY!)  [Read more…]

Some days I feel almost ok about my state of heart when it comes to following Jesus.

Like on days where His patience shines through with my daughter or I manage not to snap at the hubs when the dishes fail to make the two-foot leap from the sink to the dishwasher. Or when I have an extra-awesome quiet time or get a lot of His work done during nap time.

Then there are other days that my sin-nature rears its very, very ugly head and shocks me into an almost speechless mode. (And for those of you who have met me, you know that me + speechless = pretty serious situation.)

This ugliness recently showed up at my breakfast table during my quiet time.  [Read more…]

It is already the middle of January and for a lot of folks. the Christmas/Advent season feels like it happened a bajillion years ago.

And that might be a relief. But for our little Knobloch family, the lessons learned during Advent 2013 have stuck with us. In fact, I wanted to share a few of our Advent Adventures with you today. [Read more…]

Christ-mas, Christ-More (Just in case you forgot)

We hear it all the time– we need to celebrate the real reason for the season. It’s true, but really, I think we hear it so much that it  doesn’t quite have the meaning that is used to… (Sad, I know… but alas…)

So this year, I want to share with you a little reminder and share with you what we did for our families this year for Christmas. Its edited and updated from a similar post this time last year… Hope it makes you think– and I would love your feedback. Comment below.

Ready? Let’s do this… [Read more…]

Friday Focus: Breast Cancer Survivor’s Footprints

It is the season for giving… So for the month of December, I am excited to introduce a new series called “Friday Focus.” Since Five Minute Friday is taking a holiday hiatus, God has encouraged me to showcase some faithful folks who are living in obedience, promoting His message in unique ways.

Our first Friday Focus Feature comes from a former client (and now friend!) of mine named Aribel. This woman has experienced God’s power in mighty ways throughout her life, but most recently as a breast cancer survivor. She has taken Romans 8:28 (“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose”) to heart.

Sweet Aribel not only has an incredible heart for God, but she is sharing her breast cancer story– in a very artistic way. Aribel is the founder of Breast Cancer Survivor’s Footprints. She has taken her artwork, which stemmed out of her breast cancer journey, and is now sharing it for God’s glory. Here is her story… [Read more…]

An Adoptive Heart: Kathleen & Chris

And last but certainly not least… This is our Christmas letter to my dear sister Kathleen and her husband Chris.

***

Dear Kathleen & Chris—

Merry Christmas! This year’s gift to you is a little different than normal. We wanted to go a different direction since God has really been doing a work on our hearts over the last several months. I know we all enjoy getting “stuff,” but we have chosen to give something that won’t collect dust or break. [Read more…]
