Find Freedom, Fearlessly Focus & Flourish in Faith (Part 3)

(If you are just joining us today, get caught up on this mini series by reading Part 1 and Part 2).

I believe that complacence is one of the most dangerous tools of the enemy within the church today. The status quo is not a threat to Satan’s plan. That is where he wants us to stay, and let me tell you—it is very easy and comfortable! We can fall into the trap of “Maybe tomorrow” or “I will start Monday.” Well, guess what? Monday is coming!  [Read more…]

Find Freedom, Fearlessly Focus & Flourish in Faith (Part 2)

(If you are just joining us, hop over and read Part 1 of this mini-series).

Spiritual growth is not something that will happen by “accident.” We have two small kiddos, a kindergarten girl and 18-month-old son and as cheesy as it sounds, they do grow up so fast. Sometimes I feel like they wake up in the morning and their clothes don’t fit anymore because they seem to have grown overnight!

Unfortunately, spiritual growth isn’t necessarily “natural” for us. We have to be so intentional and seek growth every single day, which can be a little bit intimidating. If we aren’t seeking to grow every day, soon we are once again stuck, just now maybe we somewhere with slightly different scenery. [Read more…]

Find Freedom, Fearlessly Focus & Flourish in Faith (Part 1)

If you’ve been around here for awhile, you know I’m a military spouse. Before we moved to El Paso about three months ago, we were stationed at the 5th Ranger Training Battalion in North Georgia which is where the 2nd Phase of US Army Ranger School takes place, also known as Mountain Phase. I’ve been working on my health and fitness for a solid 11 years now, and during that time I have been on a quest to become a pseudo runner. Don’t worry, I won’t be winning trophies anytime soon, because my primary running goals are to finish the race, not break my face and not meet Jesus in the process.

Before we moved, I signed up to do the Ranger Run at Camp Merrill’s Open House. It was my first trail run, but I wasn’t TOO worried. [Read more…]

The Holy Hedge Clippers

It’s only February, but all things green and growing are on my brain.

Earlier this week, I was reflecting on the ingredients for growth required for our faith… Which, not surprisingly, were very similar to things required for growing plants.

Now, I am pondering what needs to be REMOVED to grow in Christ.

As I write this, I am feeling kind of overwhelmed. My brain and to do list are swimming around me… I have been doing pretty well in my new (refreshed) quest to walk with the Lord, step by step this week, on HIS agenda… But I think I have gotten out of step today.

It’s frustrating. [Read more…]

5 Steps of Personal Growth

Tall GrassGrowing up is hard to do.

Seems like a pretty obvious statement but hey… We probably all need to be reminded every now and again.

Some folks might think that “growing” stops when we reach a certain age or milestone, perhaps when we turn 18, graduate college, get married, have kids, retire from the military or become empty nesters.

But when it comes right down to it, the most content, fulfilled and successful people are going those who be grow their entire lives.

I don’t know about you, but I definitely want to be in that category of “personal growers.”

So today, I am sharing five powerful, necessary steps of personal growth. [Read more…]

Why I Gave Up (Lent Results)

Well friends, here we are.

Another spring, looking back a week ago at Easter. That precious, Holy Day that God saved the world.

But guess what? He keeps on saving us. Even today. Two thousand years later. One way He does this, in addition to the never-expiring offer for salvation through Jesus, is through growing us in our day-to-day lives.

And how fitting? “Grow” is my One Word for 2014.  [Read more…]

Fruit of the Spirit in Parenting

Fact: Parenting is HARD.

Not all days, but a lot of the days (or at least part of most days) is a challenge like I have never experienced before. For all you parents out there, I imagine you are probably nodding your head and whispering under your breath “Amen, girl.”  For those of you who aren’t parents, don’t check out. Because God can use ALL of our situations and seasons to develop fruit within us.

By fruit, I don’t mean apples, bananas or grapes. This is Spiritual fruit– even sweeter, albeit much harder to grow. [Read more…]

It Ain’t Easy Being Green

I’ve learned some great lessons over the years… from muppets. (Yeah, I said it.)

Growing up, it was Sesame Street… Big Bird, Mr. Snuffleupagus, Oscar the Grouch, Burt and Ernie… I learned that sharing is the right thing to do, that C is for cookie (that’s good enough for me, cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C!–Anybody else remember that song?) and many other life lessons that have served me well the last 27 and a half years.

I’ve also learned a lot from other muppets– perhaps the more widely known clan… Yes, THE MUPPETS. Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear (Waka, waka!) and of course~ Kermit the Frog. [Read more…]

From Seed to Orchard

When I was growing up, I loved field trips.

I mean, what kid doesn’t? It was an excuse to get out of the classroom, explore something new, educational (ish) and exciting (ish.) Plus we got to pack a lunch in a classic paper bag or cool metal (or plastic) lunchbox.

Some of my favorite field trips were trips to local orchards.

It probably stemmed for my love of agriculture… and also my love of food. (Rarely did these trip ever not include free samples of juice, fruit, candy, etc.) Plus, orchards weren’t a super popular deal in Kansas– wheat and beef, yes. Orchards? Not so much. [Read more…]

Changing Seasons: Groom, Prune & Bloom

Ahhhh… The seasons are changing and spring is in the air. Trees are budding and flowers are blooming.

Such a promising time of year.

But that promise doesn’t stop with nature. In fact, it applies to all of us, in all locations and seasons of our life.

Don’t believe me? Let me prove it.

Over the last year and half or so, I have been privileged to volunteer as SERVE Ministry Apprentice at Christ Community Church. It has been a time of growth… in more ways than one. [Read more…]
