A Kaleidoscope Perspective (Wives of Faith)

I don’t know what it is about the my current life season, but I feel like it is one big ol’ glob of nostalgia.

Maybe it is the peace of the changing seasons. Or how my toddler grows and changes (and challenges!) me more every day. Or perhaps because I am getting ready to bid my 20’s farewell.

I don’t know what it is, but honestly, I kind of enjoy it.

Any time I have a spare brain moment, God is pulling my mind back to some former seasons of my life. I don’t think of them with loss or regret, but rather recall with fondness.

Just the other day, as I was praying about this post, I remembered one of my favorite childhood pastimes: Peering through the kaleidoscope.  [Read more…]

Video Blog: The Beauty in Broken Shells #EverydayJesus

Welcome to another week of our Everyday Jesus link-up. Be sure to link-up below this post, comment on your neighbor’s blog and share with your friends… Because Jesus is everywhere, every day!

***

I know, I know… They say don’t judge a book by its cover. Well, God recently revealed to me that I shouldn’t judge a seashell by its wholeness… Or lack there of.

Because apparently, broken shells are still beautiful.

If you are reading via email, click here to watch the video.

Dear readers, where do you find beauty in your brokenness? In what ways can you share your story to bring God glory in your everyday? Don’t be shy. Tap into your Jesus-courage and share a comment below.

Let’s not discount our cracks, our fractures, our chips, our scuffs, our smudges, our brokenness. Because only in our brokenness is Christ found.

We are those shells. Broken, but still beautiful.

Whole in Him,

“You know for yourselves that we’re not much to look at. We’ve been surrounded and battered by troubles, but we’re not demoralized; we’re not sure what to do, but we know that God knows what to do; we’ve been spiritually terrorized, but God hasn’t left our side; we’ve been thrown down, but we haven’t broken.” ~2 Corinthians 8-10 MSG

Our Quiet Beauty

We live in a very loud world.

Now don’t get me wrong. I occasionally love blasting my favorite Christian radio station in my car with the windows rolled down on a bright sunny day. And I giggle when my daughter cuts loose a really loud happy squeal.

But sometimes quiet is a bit underrated. Especially in the beauty department.

Our world is all about the LOUD beauty. You know, the stick-thin-air-brushed models that pepper every dang magazine at the checkout stand. (Not judging, just saying.) Honestly, our culture is kind of superficial. It’s all about what size of pants we should wear, how to shed eleventy-billion pounds with no effort in 20 minutes, the name brand clothing and flashy make-up.

But what about our everyday, ordinary quiet beauty? The beauty that truly is more than skin deep. [Read more…]

His Unfailing Love (Pinnable Picture)

God’s creation is beautiful.

So today, as we continue to celebrate launch week, I wanted to share some of that beauty– via a pinnable picture plus a reminder of his incredible, unfailing love. [Read more…]

If Only … (Anxiety-Free Monday, Wk 4)

If only… My hair was longer.
If only… My thighs were smaller.
If only… I was four inches taller.
If only… I was more talented.
If only… I was 20 pounds lighter.
If only… My teeth were straighter.
If only… I was gifted like SHE is.
If only……………………….

How many times have you started a thought with the phrase “If only?” I know I have done it and occasionally still fall back into that trap, especially in the categories of physical attributes and “why-can’t-I-be-more-like-her?”

Let’s be honest—we women are exceptionally hard on ourselves. Some of us probably play the “if only” game on a daily basis.  We set such high standards of needing to do it all, be it all for everybody, all the while “looking good.” [Read more…]

Looking Good… Or Looking to God

Confession: (Gulp.) I used to think it was all about me.

Ouch. That hurts my heart just to write it.

For all of you sweet readers out there that perhaps did not watch me grow up (or grow up with me for that matter) let me explain just a bit. I wasn’t the fashionable girl. (And I’m still not- although I received some coaching in this department in college—thanks Kally.) I wasn’t the super-duper popular girl. (And I am still not. Which I am ok with—being popular looks like a lot of work.) However, I was the overachieving girl who always wanted to be “the funny one.”

Being funny was my way of getting attention. (Plus it was a way for people to see my personality instead of my overweight teenage body.) Overachieving was my way of getting attention for “good things.” Me, me, me—it was all about me. My plans. My schedule. My life.

And then Jesus thumped me (lovingly, of course) between the eyes. [Read more…]

Say Good Morning

Who do you tell “Good morning” each day?

Are you the kind of person who springs out of bed, raring to go with the “today-I’m-gonna-change-the-world-attitude?” Or are you the person that others understand if they approach you before your morning cup-o-joe, they might very well get shanked?

Either way, whether you are the happy-go-lucky or gimme-coffee-now or somewhere in between kinda person, you can always say good morning to one person: God. [Read more…]

Behold the Beauty (Part 3)

Have I mentioned… He calls YOU beautiful?

This was actually the title of a great speech given by one of our keynote speakers at the Women’s retreat… Hollie shared a lot of great points, many of which you might find lurking in this post.

God created us in HIS image, specifically “Imago Dei.” I doubt many of us would have the cajones to call God anything but beautiful, marvelous, worthy, beloved…. So why would we do that to ourselves if we are made BY Him, IN Him, as a reflection OF Him? [Read more…]

Behold the Beauty (Part 2)

My beautiful family… (Don’t worry,Dal, I think you are beautiful too,

this is just before your “time.” Ha)

Think of a time that some one has sincerely told you that you are beautiful. Maybe it was a spouse. Perhaps a best friend. Maybe even a stranger. Oh, and don’t forget God (He always calls you beautiful!) How does that make you feel??I don’t know about you, but if someone tells me that, I get all fluttery and blushy warm all around my heart. It feels SO GOOD. [Read more…]

Behold the Beauty (Part 1)

Confession: I am not overly excited to write this blog post. But God isn’t leaving me alone about it (surprised?) so I suppose it is time to put on my big girl panties and git-er-done.

I have been marinating on this post topic for a good 13ish days now– probably longer if you count the days before I actually made it a “draft” on my blog notes. It’s an important topic, but pretty touchy for most folks. Also, it tends to be ridiculously complicated. I have a sneaky feeling that this topic is going to require at least three separate posts. Ok, enough of the self pep talk. It’s go time.  Let’s talk about beauty. [Read more…]
