Paul Didn’t Go Shoe Shopping

If you ask a random person to quote a Bible verse, chances are we can guess which verse it could be. In fact, if I was a betting woman (which I’m not– I only gamble with Jesus dollars because after 7 years of ministry, I’ve got lots of those) I would put money on that the quoted verse would like be one of the following:  [Read more…]

Bible study can be awesome.

But sometimes, before we get to the awesome, we have to get through the overwhelming.

Hidden Ah-Ha’s: Delivered from our Troubles

Ug. We’ve all had those days.

You know, the days where things are just not going well.  Maybe the baby is sick. Perhaps you realize you are out of a key ingredient for your crockpot supper. Or it’s still 10 days til payday and you can’t help but wonder how close you are going to cut it this time. Maybe you left the windows down on your car and now it’s raining. Or as you drove to work today, you were greeted by red and white flashing lights in your rear-view. (I thought the light was yellow???)

We are weary. Short-tempered. Ready to throw in the towel, lock ourselves in the bathroom with a glass of wine and/or a serving (or 12) of dark chocolate.

Life’s everyday troubles. We have to deal with them. But we DON’T have to let them define us. [Read more…]

Hidden Ah-Ha’s: Faith by Deeds

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think we kind of live in a “do what I say, not what I do” culture.

Or more like a “please ignore the fact that I say one thing but do another” culture.

Hey, I’m not condemning or convicting anyone (totally not my job– plus, I struggle with this too. It’s like we are sinners or something.) But  we act as if this whole concept of living up to the call on our lives is negotiable, like we can make the rules.

Newsflash: It’s not and we don’t. [Read more…]

Hidden Ah-Ha’s: Doing a Great Work

I’m a big fan of routine. It keeps me on track, moving forward and constantly stretching for my goals while seeking God in the process.

But sometimes my daily routine gets a little bit too… routine.

You know what I’m talking about. Those days where you get out of bed and while you KNOW you should be thankful to have another opportunity to experience life on this earth, but instead you really feel kinda meh. Blah. Gah.

Whatever nonsense word you want to use, you are feeling it. [Read more…]

Hidden Ah-Ha’s: The One Who Called You…

Life. Ain’t. Easy.

Can I get an AMEN? Anybody? So yeah, life on this earth ain’t easy. And that is probably the understatement of the decade.

Maybe it’s just the culture that we live in, but there is so much freakin’ pressure. Every where you look, there’s a Pinterest dream of a home where everything matches and only costs a dime, a housecleaning chart or recipe shared on Facebook sure to make your life a fairytale.  It’s all bigger, better, faster, cuter, cheaper, neater…

GAH. There’s just so… much… pressure!  [Read more…]

Hidden Ah-Ha’s: Starting out Popular

So, I have to admit that I wasn’t really “popular” in high school. (Shocker, right? You would think that with my love of inky pens and new school supplies, I woulda been a shoo-in…)

Honestly, I didn’t really want to be popular.  Because even in a high school graduating class of 18 (yes, 18!) people, the popular kids always seemed to be dealing with more trouble than their “social status” was worth. (Sidenote: Nothing against the popular kiddos, especially if that included you. 🙂 )

I was friends with pretty much everyone but sure wasn’t fashionable or the party gal or the most entertaining. (Heck, I’m still none of those almost 10 years later. Ha.) [Read more…]

Series Intro: Bible Verses ~ Hidden Ah-Ha’s!

I love AH-HA moments.

I have them randomly throughout my day. Some happen when I am messing with my blog online (oh, THAT’S how that widget works…) Or sometimes when I’m doing dishes (Seriously, just a couple of weeks ago I discovered that the bottom of our bottle brush comes off to wash the bottle nipple… It only took me 4 months to figure that out. DUH.)

But most often, my greatest AH-HA moments happen when I am at church or immersed in His Word. [Read more…]

The Book of Rationalizations

So… What’s your favorite book of the Bible?

If you have been a Christian longer than a day, more than likely someone has asked you this question… (Or maybe that’s just what my nerdy Jesus self talks to my friends about…)

Regardless… Have you thought about it lately? What IS your favorite book? [Read more…]

All We Need is Love… And a Towel

Well, the learnin’ continues in my classes this week… We were charged to respond to the following prompt, regarding our ability to listen, love and represent Christ via servant evangelism… Really got me to thinking and digging deeply into my heart!

*****

In McRaney, page 128 he states “The questions and issues for lost people have changed. I am not sure that we are listening to the questions any longer. Is it possible that in our efforts to communicate we are simply shouting our answers at a higher pitch?” He further states on page 131, “Could it also be true that if we do not love one another, people will struggle to know that we are His disciples? And even worse, whether Jesus is the one real God?” Based on the Servant Evangelism approach, how do you respond to these statements? Do you agree or disagree? [Read more…]
