Travel Log (Appendix) Part 2

I know… FINALLY! This post will conclude the crazy travels/adventures/blessings that my family experienced during our major life moving transitions in the fall of 2016… Cue collective sigh of relief. (And pardon me while I go take an epic nap.)

Travel Log (Appendix) Part 1

Just when you all thought that things were simmering down for our little army family after our cross-country move… We added an “Appendix” to our traveling adventures, due to my commitment and dedication to my best friend Emily was getting hitched (in Kansas City) less than two weeks after my arrival to our new home in Georgia. So, the shenanigans continue… (If you want to get caught up to speed with all things sarcastic/traveling, jump over to read Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4.)

Talk about Monday conflict. My brain/body are rebelling. I’m trying to pack and get ready for another road trip and they are all like, “Um, WE JUST DID THIS. ABORT MISSION. REFUSE TO FUNCTION.”

But my heart is all like, “SHUT UP AND GET IN THE CAR! WE’VE GOT BRIDESMAID-ILY DUTIES TO EXECUTE.”

West bound and down for Emily Surdez’s upcoming nuptials. #LiveLaughLoeb

So, at this point in the Knobloch-family-army-moving shenanigans, we had arrived at our new home-destination… But of course, the “fun” didn’t stop there. Keep reading for the ups and downs of transitioning to our new-to-us Georgia home.

(And if you are just joining us today… Catch up with Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 of our transition. Feel free to point and laugh.)

Travel log, day 12: Hey yo, from Little Rock, AR.

1. Yes, I can count… Travel log days 9-11 were spent semi stationary at my parentals hacienda. Again, no driving = delightful.

2. Grateful for the the awesome hospitality tonight at Chateau De Knoberg (Aka, thanks Brock & Katie!)

3. Driven by the sign several times over the years, but “Toad Suck Park” still makes me lol.

4. Stopped for gas in Russellville, AR… And it reminded me of my summer spent there interning with Cargill Pork. (I waved in that general direction Cindy Woods Looney!)

5. Crushed (aka “Sonic”) ice is the best non-human traveling companion this preggo has thus far discovered.

6. We are one passenger (and a lot of luggage!) lighter as Charis is partying like a Rockstar Toddler the next couple weeks, first with Gma Cj then Gma Lex. I’m a little jealous. #AllTheIceCream

Surefire indication #2 you are in the middle of a very long road trip:

Husband get out of shower and you catch him doing the “smell test” on his very limited number of T-shirts he brought. ?#ThatsWhenFebreezeBecomesDeodorant

Just Get on the Plane (#EverydayJesus)

Right after college graduation, I decided that to properly enter the big kid world, I needed to do something drastic.

So I decided to go to China for 10 days. By myself.

Yes, I had a friend that was already living over there, but all planning, transportation and the like was on me. Plus my friend has to work during the day so I knew I would be on my own in the “little” Chinese town of Xiamen (pronounced: Shaw-men, population: 2 million people. And yes, that is small for China.)

My flights booked and I had my passport and visa in hand. I had only flown internationally one other time and it certainly wasn’t to the other side of the planet by myself.

Needless to say, I was a wee bit nervous.

Chocolate & Jesus

When the going gets tough… the tough get going.

Now, let’s tweak that statement a bit…  Complete it  with YOUR word… what do you desire/need/turn to when things get tough?

Here are a few of my potential examples.

When the going gets tough… the tough get frustrated.
When the going gets tough… the tough get take-out. (I’m an emotional eater. What can I say?)
When the going gets tough… the tough get snippy. (Not proud of this one—but it’s true.)
When the going gets tough… the tough get chocolate. (No explanation necessary, right?) [Read more…]

Check it at the gate– Our Overpacking Issue

Hi. My name is Sharita Knobloch. And I am an overpacker.

(This is where you all respond in unison with “HI SHARITA.”

Seriously though… I don’t MEAN to overpack when I travel and/or move. It just sort of happens. I start out with a general packing list, and by the time I get done, I am standing in our driveway, staring at our car whispering prayers under my breath that all of this stuff will actually fit in our vehicle.

As I type this, we are getting ready to move 3000 miles across country… With an infant.  [Read more…]

Fine time to be be Refined

Today’s post starts with a mini science lesson… (It’s not going to require any complicated chemistry formulas or anything I promise. Hang with me… It IS Friday after all.)

Did you know that it take MILLIONS of years for graphite to be transformed into a diamond? Not only does it take a significant chunk of time, but it also requires temperatures upwards of 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit and pressure that is 50 times greater than that on the earth’s surface.

Sheesh. That’s intense! (And now you have something to talk about at the supper table tonight. You are welcome.) [Read more…]

Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey

Do you remember that movie from the 1993 called “Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey?” You know, the one with the two dogs (Shadow and Chance) and the cat (Sassy.)

Oh. You don’t? Well, google it. I will wait.

Got it? Ok. Well, it was one of my favorite movies back in the day– we owned it on VHS, and if we still had a VHS player, I would probably still watch it on occasion. That movie included my favorite things: Disney, animals and adventure.

Now my life is a little less Disney and a lot more adventure. [Read more…]
